Dr. Winnie Sia 

Dr. Winnie Sia is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. She completed her medical school and internal medicine residency training at University of Alberta, and then followed by a two-year Obstetric Medicine fellowship at Brown University, Providence, USA.

Dr. Sia is site Chief of Medicine at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, and Director of Obstetric Medicine at the University of Alberta. She started the University of Alberta Obstetric Medicine fellowship training program in 2011 and is the former program director. Nationally, she is the Chair of the Obstetric Medicine Fellowship Committee, which was active in pursuing national accreditation recognition for Obstetric Medicine. She is on the Executive Council of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine as Treasurer and is a former Secretary. Dr. Sia is a member of the Women & Children’s Health Research Institute in Alberta.

She is a consultant for hospitalized pregnant patients in Obstetric Medicine, as well as an attending physician on the General Medicine wards. Her outpatient practice is primarily general Obstetric Medicine, although she was a co-founder of the Maternal Heart Health Clinic. She is the director of the Postpartum Preeclampsia Clinic, a postpartum vascular risk reduction clinic for women who had hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, which she founded in 2010.

Her current research areas in Obstetric Medicine lie in two broad categories. The first area is the effects of medical complications in pregnancy, such as preeclampsia, on the long-term vascular health of women. The second is in thrombosis in pregnancy, and preeclampsia and their diagnostic tests.
