As more women with medical co-morbidities choose to become pregnant, the need for obstetric medicine services has increased globally. This session will outline Australia and New Zealand, Canada and England ’s current approaches to obstetric medicine by outlining training, accreditation and recognition pathways. We will discuss the models of care, employment and credentialing considerations and research and collaboration in the field whilst also outlining further areas targeted for growth and development. The progress and refinement of these approaches in recent years have helped define and characterise the boundaries of obstetric medicine, thus strengthening a potential future claim for recognition of obstetric medicine as a distinct physician field of specialty practice.
