Abstract:

A fit 34 year-old woman (G4P4) presented to her Obstetrician at 18 weeks gestation with breathlessness. Echocardiogram revealed a 7.2cm aneurysm of the ascending aorta with severe aortic regurgitation. At 19 weeks gestation and after extensive counselling, the patient underwent surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass to repair the aneurysm and replace the aortic valve with a St Jude mechanical valve. Discussion incorporates fetal outcome on cardiopulmonary bypass, decisions regarding anticoagulation choice in pregnancy and outcome for mother and baby
